Homecoming Celebration

Annual Nicodemus Homecoming Emancipation Celebration originally held to mark the emancipation of slaves from the West Indies has been celebrated continuously since 1878.

A casual gathering of friends and family at the Bogue home of the president of the NHS, Tom Wellington. A great way to begin the weekend and enjoy fellowship with the clan. Sponsored by the Historical Society, they also feed us!! Call Tom at 785-421-6443 with any questions.

1:00 - 3:00 pm Punt,Pass,Kick Competition

Boy and girls of all ages will enjoy this contest and receive prizes. Contestants should have their Homecoming 2010 bracelet. Sign up at the Historical Society's booth for this fun event. Call Tom at 785-421-6443 with any questions.

3:00 - 5:00 pm Vision Workshop Presentation

7:00 - 10:00 pm Free Jazz

'Doc Nevins and Crew' our own local talent, will be providing great music. This event is FREE, but donations will be appreciated. Bring your lawn chairs and bug repellant!

8:30 - 10:00 am Free Pancake Breakfast

The Nicodemus Flour Co-op has provided this free breakfast for the past several years. It's your chance to try our famous pancake mix and start the day off with nourishment. Again, this is free; but donations will be appreciated. Don't forget to purchase your pancake mix and homegrown flour.

11:00 am Parade

This is one of the highlights of the weekend. Entrants from far and wide provide the parade and strut their stuff. If you would like to participate, contact Carol Alexander at 816-363-1037.

12:00 pm, noon Three-on-Three Tournament

Teenage boys and girls are invited to enter this contest. You need to have your homecoming bracelet and register at the Homecoming tent by 11:00 am. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. For information, Call Victor at 785-216-9019.

Here is your chance to make a difference in the future of Homecoming. This is an important event and should be attended by ALL descendants and interested parties.

3:00 pm Fashion/Talent Show

5:00 - 7:00 pm Fun and games, adults & kids

There will be a variety of options for the afternoon for kids and adults alike. Check out the schedule of events at the Homecoming Tent for more details.

6:00 pm Vintage Baseball Game

Dig out your mitts and braces and join the fun at the ball diamond up by the school house. Don't forget to bring some water and sunscreen. Call the Historical Society, 785-839-4280 or 421-2443 to sign up early.

7:00 - 9:00 pm Gospel Extravaganza

This annual event is always a crowd pleaser. Everyone and anyone is free to come forth with a song or whatever. So come share in this spirit filled evening of praise and joy.

9:00 - 11:30 pm Free Jazz

The Group lead by 'Jim Lewin' will play. This event is FREE; but donations will be appreciated. Bring your lawn chairs and bug repellant!

10:30 pm Fire Works Display

This has become an event to look forward to each year. Taz the Man, will provide a spectatular fireworks display.

12:00 pm Dance

DJ Daniel Abrams will provide music at the tennis court for as long as he desires. Remember that you MUST have your Homecoming bracelet to get in!

Sunday - August 1, 2010

10:00 am - 2:00 pm

All descendants and friends should spend some time helping clean up the town on Sunday morning. The Homecoming 2009 group will provide some refreshments. This is a necessary function and each person should come do their part to leave Nicodemus in good condition after the great weekend of events. Thanks in advance for your help.

10:30 am First Baptist Church Services

The guest church is Bethany Chapel Baptist from Ottawa - Pastor Armogen Walker. Rev. Walker was the pastor at FMBC several years ago. Come early and stay for dinner after services.
